Finding my d-spot in the downtown

When people think of bustling metropolises Calgary often isn’t the first city that comes to mind. Insanely suburban, culturally wanting, lackingje ne sais quoi. But the city is starting to become self aware after going nutty with oil (not to say that won’t happen again) for so many years. If nothing else, they’ve started a hilarious new campaign that’s spicing up train stations and sidewalks. The find your d-spot campaign is adding a dose of humour to the current Calgary downtown situation.

Never Settle For Less - Good Cheeseburgers at Peter's Drive-In

I guess you could say I have a soft spot (and a hardened artery) for a great cheeseburger. Peter’s is a burger joint that has burgers that are delicious and quality-control normally reserved for Japanese sword-making. You can’t help but compare other burgers made in Calgary to a Peter’s Drive-In burger. Established in 1962, Peter’s does great business. All day, every day. The pictures I’ve taken are at 10 at night on a Thursday, which isn’t exactly a dining hour in most of Canada.

The King has died. Long Live The King!

On this day the King of Pop Michael Jackson has ceased to be of this world. My respect for him is great. I once tried making a database about pop music in the 80’s, and if there was one consistent heavy-hitter, it was MJ. He was like a prime number, fascinating and unique. I’m glad that for the first time in 20 years people are finally dusting off their old copies of Thriller.

My Life as a Series of Drinks - The Obama

I remember the night Barack Obama won the election. It’s funny, because it was the first US election I refused to follow. I hadn’t gotten my ballot (either Town Hall failed to send or Canada Post failed to deliver). I danced the night away at the Soda as soon as I heard the news. I even created a drink, the recipe which I’m sharing with you here: The Obama Served in a shot glass

How I Beat Starbucks and Got $87.40 Worth of Milkshakes

There is a new milkshake called the “Vivanno” at Starbucks. They’re not particularly good, and Starbucks charges $4.37 for one of them. Now when I loathe a corporation (like Starbucks), I like to hit where it hurts most: their wallet. At the Calgary Folk Festival Starbucks was handing out free coupons for these sub-par smoothies, and so naturally I grabbed a stack. I proceeded to give out most of the stack to friends whom I knew would be more than happy to use them.

New Record "Fluke" is Out

I’m not sure if you’ve heard yet, but my new record *Fluke* is available now for full download. This record was designed for maximum danceability. There was extensive testing (some tests were done on animals), but the result is a scientific success. If you would like to replicate my experiments (peer-review is very important), then the steps are as follows: Ensure a dancing space is available. This is generally about 2.

How To Run A Record Store

I once happened upon a record shop that was, upon opening the door, a non-stop horrorshow. This isn’t the first craptastic record store I’ve visited (by the way, by record I mean vinyl moreso than CD’s), but it has led me to reflect on the good stores I’ve been to, and what makes them successful. But first, a brief account of my poor experience at that store. Walking into the store, the first thing I noticed was the reek of tobacco.
